Description
Overview
Nepal has a season that breaks unprepared footwear. From June to September, the trails turn to rivers, the rivers turn to crossings, and your shoes either keep up or they don't. The KEEN Zionic WP in Desert Sage and Ember Glow was built specifically for conditions like these — fully waterproofed, aggressively lugged, and constructed for the kind of terrain that separates hiking shoes from hiking gear.
This isn't a trail shoe that handles rain. This is a waterproof system that also happens to be an exceptional trail shoe.
The Waterproof Advantage — Why It Matters in Nepal
Most trail shoes manage moisture. The Zionic blocks it entirely.
The integrated KEEN.DRY waterproof breathable membrane creates a sealed barrier between your foot and the outside world — river crossings, monsoon downpours, wet grass at 4,000m, muddy switchbacks after three days of rain. Water gets out through perspiration. Water does not get in. Full stop.
For Nepal's trekking calendar, this is not a luxury feature. It's the feature.

The Colorway — Built for This Landscape
Desert Sage and Ember Glow isn't a colorway that was chosen for a studio shoot. It's a colorway that was chosen for rhododendron forests, river valley crossings, and rocky ridgelines at golden hour. The sage green base reads as almost camouflaged against Nepal's mid-altitude trail palette — understated, earthy, purposeful. The ember glow accent adds warmth and visibility without breaking the tonal harmony.
Put this shoe in a photo on the Annapurna Circuit and it looks like it belongs there. Because it does.
Performance Specifications
Waterproofing: KEEN.DRY membrane — fully waterproof, breathable, and sealed at critical entry points
Outsole: 4mm multi-directional rubber lugs — deep bite on loose gravel, wet rock, and muddy terrain with reliable release so mud doesn't pack and kill traction
Midsole: Dual-density EVA compression pad — cushioned enough for full trail days, firm enough for technical terrain feedback
Upper: Durable mesh with TPU overlays — structured support without excessive weight
Toe Box: KEEN's signature wider toe box — natural foot splay, reduced blister risk on long descents
Heel-to-Toe Drop: 6mm — a low, natural geometry that promotes efficient foot strike across varied terrain
Weight: Trail-optimized — substantial enough for protection, light enough to forget about after the first hour
Who This Is For
The pragmatic Nepali trekker. The one who has done enough trails to know that wet feet on day two of a five-day route is not just discomfort — it's blisters, lost momentum, and a ruined trip. The buyer who reads the spec sheet before looking at the colorway, and then looks at the colorway and feels good about both decisions.
Trekkers planning monsoon-season routes on Annapurna, Langtang, or Everest Base Camp
Outdoor professionals — guides, porters, and field staff — who need reliable daily protection
Kathmandu weekend hikers who don't want to schedule their trails around the forecast
Buyers upgrading from a non-waterproof shoe after one bad monsoon experience
The Terrain Test
Muddy switchbacks in peak monsoon? ✓ Knee-deep river crossings on the Marshyangdi? ✓ Wet grass at 5am on the Ghorepani climb? ✓ Three consecutive days of rain on the Langtang route? ✓ Still looking good on the way back through Thamel? ✓

Sizing & Fit
KEEN's wider toe box runs slightly generous compared to standard trail shoes. If you're between sizes, stay true to size. For trekkers who wear thick wool socks on multi-day routes, consider going half a size up. The roomy forefoot is intentional — it prevents the toe compression that causes black nails on long descents.
